Pruning

Ed's Tree Service, Inc

Trees need to be pruned to remove dead branches, crowded or rubbing limbs, eliminate hazards, and increase light and air penetration.

  • Crown cleaning is the removal of dead, dying, diseased, crowded, weakly attached and low-vigor branches from the crown of the tree.
  • Crown thinning is the selective removal of branches to increase light penetration and air movement through the crown.  Thinning reduces the wind resistance and helps prevent storm damage.
  • Crown raising or elevating removes the lower branches from a tree in order to provide clearance for roofs, gutters, buildings, vehicles, walkways and obscured visibility.  Elevating trees can also provide more light penetration on your lawn.
  • Limb removal helps eliminate branches that interfere with wires, gutters, roofs, chimneys, windows, decks, play areas, or those that obstruct walkways and streets.
  • Crown reduction reduces the size of the tree and reshapes the crown.  This is necessary when a tree has been damaged by a storm.
  • Wound dressings were once thought to accelerate wound closure, protect against insects and diseases, and reduce decay.  However research shows wound dressings do not help and should be avoided.  Dressings actually seal in moisture, preventing the wound from healing.
Tree Removal
  • If a tree needs to be removed, we will safely and efficiently take it down with advanced technical rigging equipment or with the assistance of a crane.
  • Our professional tree climbers are some of the most experienced in the industry.  Our expert and careful tree removal is performed to insure safety to people, structures and landscaping.
  • We offer Emergency Storm Service.  We are skilled to remove trees that have fallen on houses or other structures.  A crane is usually necessary to remove trees from a house.
Stump Removal
  • A stump machine is used to grind the stump into mulch.
  • The large stump machine is trailed behind a truck.  The truck and machine need to back up to the stump.  This machine will grind 12 inches below the surface.  The root ball is usually no deeper than 12 inches.
  • The smaller stump machine is self propelled and can fit through an opening of at least 36 inches wide.  This machine will grind the stump 6 to 12 inches below the surface.
  • We grind the diameter of the stump plus an additional foot to reach the underlying large roots.  The diameter of grinding can be increased to remove unsightly or annoying surface roots.
  • The resulting mulch from the grinding is back filled into the hole.  The mulch will settle back into the ground over time.
  • The mulch can be removed and replaced with topsoil and seed for an additional charge.
Tree Fertilization
  • To avoid malnutrition, be sure to give your trees an adequate amount of micronutrients.  A very efficient and effective type of fertilization is the Mauget Tree Injection Process.
  • The Stemix micro-injector contains a formula of agricultural minerals designed to stimulate both foliar, cambial and root growth. This unique method injects a liquid fertilizer directly into the sapwood.
  • The fertilizer is contained in capules placed every 6 inches around the base of tree.  This method requires drilling a small hole only 3/16’’ in diameter penetrating into the xylem ¾’’ or less.
  • These tiny puncture wounds enable prompt recovery of the area of infusion. The nutrients are absorbed into the sap stream and delivered systemically through the tree where they become functional.
  • The capsules may empty within hours and provides immediate help for nutritionally starved trees.  Watering is recommended at the time of injection to increase systemic action. This injection method should be applied no more than once a year.  It is recommended that the tree be at least 4 inches in diameter for this type of treatment.
  • Deep root feeding is an alternate type of fertilizing trees. This is performed by drilling holes 2 to 3 feet subsurface around the drip line of the tree. Fertilizer is added into these drilled holes. However, most drip lines are obscured by other structures and project onto other properties.
